Spring Valley, CA History
Named after a natural spring on its location. Originally called “El Aquaje de San Jorge” translated from Spanish into “St. George’s Spring” when Spanish raised cattle in the area.
Judge Augustus Ensworth from San Diego filed a claim for a 160-acre ranch in 1863. He built a small adobe house near the spring to start his ranch. That adobe house became a designated National Historic Landmark.
